Combating Antibiotic Resistance: Measures for Pig Farms

Combating Antibiotic Resistance

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious health threat requiring a One Health (human and veterinary) approach to combat it, since humans, food and animals constitute overlapping reservoirs of antimicrobial resistance. Post-weaning diarrhoea is one of the major health issues which many farms treat with antibiotics. To limit the spread of AMR, antibiotics use should be dramatically reduced, including in pig husbandry. Agroscope is working on the measures that will allow us to reduce and/or prevent these diarrhoea outbreaks. New prophylactic methods will be evaluated in a validated experimental model at the Posieux site.
