Cultivation techniques must be adapted to the new potato varieties in order to guarantee good yields, a high-quality harvest and optimal storage. Agroscope works together with the potato sector to characterise the new varieties and sets up trials that aim to increase the climate-change resilience of the crop and optimise its storage. The new varieties are characterised via a joint varietal research network consisting of Agroscope and Swisspatat (the Swiss potato industry association). Trials for combatting the effects of climate change aim to facilitate water and nutrient (N and P) absorption. Lastly, Agroscope seeks environmentally-friendly solutions for improving potato storage.
